Masicorp II

Masicorp is a non-profit organisation which provides education and skills development to the community of Masiphumelele, as a route out of poverty and towards a sustainable future. Its programmes range from early childhood development, to primary and high school learning labs and skills programmes as well as to adult skills development programmes, namely sewing and computers. A third of the organisation’s resources are aimed at improving the quality of early childhood education in Masiphumelele, providing a firm foundation for future learning for the youngest members of this impoverished community.

There are five main initiatives within Masicorp’s ECD programme portfolio. These include three ECD centres for the children of Masiphumelele – Sunnydale, Chasmay Educare and Masi Educare; Stay and Play therapy programme aimed at informal ECDs in the area; and ECD training for practitioners. In addition, Masicorp runs a feeding programme which provides two hot meals every school day to children from Chasmay, Sunnydale and Masi Educare. The collective mission of these programmes is to raise the standard of care and learning outcomes for children aged 0-6 years as well as provide further education and training for staff.

Key outcomes:

  • An increase in the number of children completing ECD that are prepared for Grade R and children completing Grade R that are prepared for Grade 1
  • Improvement in the quality of teaching and learning in informal creches
  • Improvement in the facilities and teaching environment in informal creches
  • Daily feeding and nutrition for all children attending ECD centres run by the organisation, by providing them with two healthy meals daily
  • Improvement in the developmental skills of children attending ECD centres and informal creches
  • Teachers continue to be trained and receive ECD certification in order to provide the highest quality education for the children in their care
