Genesis Community IT Initiative (G-CITI) supports the needs of all citizens with access to high-speed wireless internet, entry-level digital literacy, social innovation and entrepreneurship, and vocational digital skills programmes through the I-CAN Centre (www.i-can.org.za). The Centre partners with the Western Cape government to focus on digital inclusion and technology training for citizens.
More than 15 000 training opportunities were delivered across the Cape Flats region from G-CITI’s various digital skills training programmes. Technology training aside, youths have also obtained Global Vendor Certification in IT, Web Development, Graphic Design, Financial Technology Training and office administration-related programmes. These vocational training programmes, along with job readiness skills, have enabled young people to secure employment opportunities. They have also unlocked entrepreneurial ventures for young people with visionary insight and leadership skills.
G-CITI has created a partnership ecosystem where local municipalities, the provincial government and the corporate sector have partnered to transform lives through technology. As a Digital Skills Training Provider, G-CITI is certified and accredited to offer Microsoft Training, AWS Training, Huawei Training, Google Training and MICT SETA Qualifications Training. Tech students, after they have completed their training program, helps to co-create community projects, enabling small businesses, non-profits and civil society to benefit from their digital skills as a service, part of G-CITI Apprenticeship model called Skillify.
